Mary Margaret Lopez, age 64, of Diamondhead, MS passed away on Sunday evening, November 17, 2024, while surrounded by those who loved her most. She was born on October 16, 1960, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, and was the beloved daughter of the late Margaret Ann Janz.
Mary spent most of her early years in Southern California, where she started her family and developed a lifelong passion for serving others. A selfless and nurturing individual, Mary was devoted to enriching the lives of those in need. She initially worked with the elderly and with a foundation for individuals with special needs. Ever the resourceful and independent type, she also had a knack for oil changes and tire repairs. In 1993, Mary and Arthur, the love of her life for over 40 years, relocated to South Mississippi, giving them the opportunity to be closer to their sons and treasured family. Soon thereafter, she pursued her dream of higher education, attending MGCCC and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned her master’s degree in psychology. Mary used her education and innate compassion to improve the lives of abused and battered families through her work with Hope Haven.
Mary was a beautiful soul with an infectious smile. She loved playing her music loudly and dancing with her boys. She spent countless hours at the ball field, keeping score and watching the 6 boys play while Arthur called the ballgame from behind home plate.
She loved arts and crafts - making jewelry, wall art, and collecting antiques. She personalized every birthday and greeting card with endearing thoughts and flawless penmanship. Her dedication to keeping an active craft hand was almost a match for her dedication to the rosary, with which she prayed ritually for those in her heart.
Mary is survived and missed by her husband, Arthur; and her boys, Juan (Meaghan), Anthony (Brittany), Christopher (Gaby), Michael (Tammy), Daniel (Patti), and Benjamin (Tere). Forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren, Katelyn, Terrell, Joselin, Juan, Christopher, Ava, Jasmine, Isabella, Benjamin, Leila, Victoria, Abigail, Luke, and Liam. Siblings, Patricia (Joe), David (Gloria), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who were near and dear to her heart.
Mary’s memory lives on in all those she held so close to her heart.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Pass Christian, is honored to serve the Lopez family.
