Mary W. Clark of Gulfport passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at age 89. Born on May 21, 1923 in Philadelphia, MS., she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Alexander Willis and Olean Sullivan Willis, her husband Gene M. Clark, Sr., her sister, Edna O. Willis, and her daughter, Mary Linda Clark.
She is survived by her son, Gene M. Clark, Jr. and his wife Linda of Alabaster, AL and her son, Charles E. Clark and his life partner Wade Mickesh of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Suzanne Clark McMurtry and her husband, Rick of Biloxi; and Angela Clark of Alabaster, AL; her precious great-grandson, Tyler Morgan Clark of Alabaster, AL; and her dear friend, Doris Burrow of Gulfport.
Mary is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her genuine character and wittiness always made her shine and she always remembered your name. Mary was passionate about sports, especially the Saints and Miss. St. and never missed a chance to watch them play ball. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler. She was a devoted Catholic and spent many years as a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Gulfport. Mary was a graduate of Gulfport High School. She worked for the Daily Herald, now the Sun Herald for over 40 years in the classified advertising department.
Mary loved the devoted staff at Lakeview Nursing Center who took exceptional care of her for the past four years and their dedication to her well-being is truly appreciated.
The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi. Visitation for friends and family will be at the church one hour before Mass. Burial at Evergreen Gardens Cemetery in Gulfport will follow the funeral service.
