Mary Ayers Brakebill, 86, passed away in Gulfport, MS, on March 27th, 2024. Mary was born on January 11th, 1938 to George and Ethel Ayers in Roaring Spring, PA.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Brakebill III, her husband and father of her children, Rev. William D. Flickinger Jr., and her parents George Ayers and Ethel Glass Ayers.

She is survived by her children, William D. Flickinger III, Crystal Flickinger, Geordie (Melissa) Flickinger, and Tiana (Tracy) Marquez; her grandchildren, Phoebe (fiancé Joseph Ray) Marquez, Liam Flickinger, Geordie Alexis Flickinger, and JonViolet Flickinger; her brothers Don (Sue) Ayers and John Ayers; and her life-long friend Shirley Dewrell, who was like a sister to her.

After Mary graduated from Morrison Cove High School, she went on to study elementary education at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. She worked in a variety of careers including teaching, sales, and energy medicine, but her favorite job was being a mother and grandmother. She was passionate about everything she pursued in life.

Mary had a vibrant personality and beautiful spirit, and her radiant smile could light up any room. She befriended people of all ages and walks of life, and made them feel like family. She loved animals, fashion, red lipstick, the beach, dancing, laughing, celebrating holidays, and spending time with her family and beloved pets. She didn’t like to say goodbye; instead, she would say “goodbye for now.” She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Should family and friends desire, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.          

Services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
