Mary Ann Shehane, age 86, of Ocean Springs MS, passed away on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport, MS. She was born in 1940 in Nicholson, MS, to Amos Joel Bennett and Flora Thigpen Bennett Pittman, one of 12 children, and was a long-time resident of Biloxi, D’Iberville, and Ocean Springs, MS.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her friendliness and welcoming personality. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, puzzles and games of all kinds and will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

In 1958 Mary Ann married James Richard Dossett and together they raised three children, Michael Richard Dossett, Kenneth Scott Dossett, and Tanya Dossett Jones.

Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone she met. She retired after working over 20 years as a customer service representative for the Keesler Air Force Base Exchange and was a member of the Joy Sunday School class of First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs, MS.

She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Jones (Daniel) of Omaha, NE; her sons, Kenneth Scott Dossett of Vancleave, MS and Michael Dossett (Jennie) of Columbus, GA; her grandchildren, Jeremy Jones and Jacob Jones of Omaha, NE, April Jewel (Michael) of Chicago, IL, Bradley Dossett (Brooke), Jayme Dossett (Lindsey) of Vancleave, MS, and Wesly Dossett of D’Iberville, MS; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The deceased is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Bennett Jarrell of Nicholson, MS. and Linda Kennedy (Ronnie) of Carriere, MS; her brothers, Buddy Bennett (Ginger), Houston Pittman (Debbie) of Nicholson, MS, and Earl Bennett (Norma) of Picayune, MS. In 1989 Mary Ann married Donnell Joe Shehane and enjoyed many years of happiness until his death in 2016.  

The deceased was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joel Bennett, Lester Bennett, Huey Bennett, and Wayne Bennett, and sisters Bobbie Nell Bennett. and Marilyn Mitchell.

A gathering and graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.  The Gathering will take place from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., West Jackson County.  The Funeral Procession will depart at 10:15 a.m. going to Biloxi National Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. Committal Service.
