Mr. Matheny was born in Sumrall, MS and attended Oak Grove High School where he met his wife of 59 years Dorothy Anderson. They were referred to as Romeo & Juliet.
He is survived by his wife and 4 children, Michael Matheny (Dawn), Benny Matheny (Wanda), Jerry Matheny (Kim) and Penny Dubuisson; 8 grandchildren, Dustin Matheny, Damon Matheny (Lucia), Crystal Cook (Mike), Sarah Holly, Lance Holly (Cortney Page), Cassie Lake, Deven Dubuisson and Molly Matheny; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Brunette Fortenberry of Gulfport and Bobbie Bounds of Sumrall; one brother, Dalton Matheny (Billie Jean); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin and Dorothy moved to Gulfport in 1953 where he retired from Olin / Indal Aluminum after 41 years, and then during that retirement he wanted to stay busy so he started driving a school bus for Long Beach Schools where he retired from there after 7 years. He had several hobbies that he enjoyed during his lifetime that included bowling, darts, fishing, dirt car racing and golf and enjoyed watching Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon & the Saints. His last hobby was playing dominos which was the highlight of his day. In every hobby he had he was very competitive and strived to be the very best. He definitely was the best father any of us could ever ask for. He will be sadly missed by many.
