Marsha "Sissy" Bates
Brattain
October 16, 1949 – May 16, 2026
Marsha “Sissy” Bates Brattain, a resident of Pass Christian and Long Beach, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospice facility in Gulfport, Mississippi, with her daughter by her side. She was 76 years old.
Born on October 16, 1949, Sissy was a graduate of Pass Christian High School and dedicated her professional life to banking for many years. Two years ago, she moved to Long Beach to live with her daughter.
Sissy achieved true sobriety, faced her past, and did the courageous work of rewriting her story. Because of her dedication to change, she and her daughter, Rebekah, were able to heal their bond and share a genuinely great and meaningful relationship. It was Rebekah’s honor to care for her mother during this season of reconciliation, sharing daily laughs and home-cooked meals together (with no pepper!)
Sissy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Bates, Sr. and Betty Wise Bates; her older sister, Judy Bates Pique; and her two brothers, Charles Bates, Jr. and Mitchell Bates.
She is survived by her only child, Rebekah Brattain Koby; her two granddaughters, Savannah Wheat (Nathan Blythe) and Sarah Koby; her great-grandchild, Avery Drew Blythe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is serving the family. Please sign the online guestbook and share memories at www.riemannfamily.com
