Marilyn Jean Peterson, age 78, of Gulfport, passed away on November 16, 2017.
She was born in Bertha, MN to Gordon and Ruby Workman Bower and was raised in the small farming town Hewitt, MN. She was a graduate of Bertha-Hewitt High School Class of 1957 and attended Minnesota School of Business and Laboratory Technique. While working in Minneapolis at a Doctor's office, her fellow co-worker took Marilyn home to meet her big brother and future husband. She married Douglas Peterson in a cold Minnesota Winter wedding and became a U.S. Navy Seabee wife. After traveling with her husband to numerous stations in California, Hawaii, and Ireland; they moved to Gulfport where she worked for the Civil Service at the Biloxi VA, Keesler AFB and the NCBC.
Marilyn was a faithful member of the Methodist faith attending Ramsay UMC and then Beauvoir UMC. She was socially active as a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority, Red Hats Society and Quota Club and numerous card groups. After her husband's death, she went back to school and received an Associates of Arts Degree in Small Business in 2009.
She loved to talk on the telephone, loved to shop for a bargain, taking road trips and cruising, was a wonderful baker, and always loved a good game of cards. She had a flair for glamour and style of clothing and jewelry. She had the gift of style and would have loved to have a career as a personal shopper. She had the gift of matching just the right color and style together for a bargain price.
One of her last highlights was organizing her 60th high school reunion in Minnesota for Bertha-Hewitt class of 1957-58. All from her home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and then participating in event this past September in Minnesota.
