Marilyn C. Alston

January 10, 1936 — October 2, 2023

Gulfport

Marilyn C. Alston, a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, has passed away at the age of 87. She peacefully departed this world on October 2, 2023, in Gulfport, MS. Marilyn, known by her family and friends as a loving and caring individual, leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.

Marilyn was born on January 10, 1936, in Bay St. Louis, MS. Throughout her life, she exemplified dedication and hard work. Marilyn attended Gulfport Schools.
With an admirable career spanning two decades, Marilyn retired as Supervisor with the Gulfport Water Department. However, retirement did not slow her down. Instead, she embraced a new chapter of her life as the proud owner and operator of Alston's Antiques. Her passion for antiques allowed her to connect with others who shared the same appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

One of Marilyn's proudest accomplishments was being an active member of Bayou View Baptist Church in Gulfport. She wholeheartedly valued the church's contributions to her life in her later years. The church community played an integral role in supporting and serving her during those times.

Additionally, to her devotion to the church, Marilyn was a charter member of ABWA (American Business Women's Association) and the MS Gulf Coast Antique Dealers Association. These organizations provided opportunities for personal growth and fostered lasting friendships.

Outside of work and community involvement, Marilyn had various hobbies and interests that brought her joy and fulfillment. She particularly enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with her family. These moments created beautiful memories that will be cherished forever.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold "Dude" Alston; parents Callie and Nicholas Cuevas; son Kenny L. Alston; and nine siblings. While our hearts ache at her loss, we find solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.

Left to treasure her memory are her twin children, Kaye Alston and Kevin (Janice) Alston; daughter-in-law Carleen Alston; grandchildren Rebecca (Steve) Craig, Rachel (Josh) Davidson, Ryan Alston, and Brian Alston; and nine great-grandchildren whom their “GG” loved affectionately, Braeden Craig, Jacob Craig, Elijah Craig, Henrik Craig, Nikolai Craig, twins Leo and Levi Craig, as well as twins Jack and Carlee Davidson. She will always hold a special place in our hearts as an adoring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Bayou View Baptist Church located at 4709 Chamberlain Ave in Gulfport. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at the same location from 11:00 AM.  Marilyn will be laid to rest during a graveside service at Pine Ridge Gardens on 28th Street in Gulfport.

Marilyn's family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Bayou View Baptist Church. In doing so, you will not only honor Marilyn's memory but also support the church community that meant so much to her.

Marilyn C. Alston was an extraordinary woman who lived life with kindness and compassion. Her impact on the lives of those around her will forever be cherished. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
