Iantha Marie Ladner Pique, age 94, formerly of Gulfport and Woolmarket, MS, went home to Heaven on July 13, 2024, in Diamondhead, MS. Marie was born on December 26, 1929, in Pass Christian, MS, as the most beautiful Christmas gift to her parents, Walter and Alezia Ladner.
Marie was a devout Catholic and servant of God. In her 94 years, she graced many parishes along the Gulf Coast, most notably St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport, where she raised her three children in the faith.
During her many years of service at St. John Parish, elementary, and high school, Marie held the roles of PTO President and Knights of Columbus, Bishop Gunn Council Ladies Auxiliary President. Her devotion to her faith was significantly displayed through her leadership within the Cursillo Movement of South Mississippi. Marie was a long-standing member of the Krewe of Gemini of Gulfport, holding positions of Ball Captain and Co-Captain, Parade Co-Captain, Court Member, and Ways and Means Chairman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 60 years, August Richard Pique, Sr.; and her son, August “Gussie” Richard Pique, Jr.; and her brothers, Elus, Huvick, Robert, and Vincent Ladner.
Marie is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Pique Erhard and her husband John of Gulfport, MS, and Tammy Pique Morton and her husband Patrick of LaPlace, LA; and her daughter-in-law, Susie King Pique of Gilbert, LA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin, Jason (Ellen), and Darren (Aimee) Erhard; Ryan Pique; and Matthew, Michael, and Mary Margaret “Maggie” Morton. Also surviving Marie is her sister-in-law, Shirley Ladner of Gulfport, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marie loved cheering on her New Orleans Saints, cooking for her loved ones, and spending time in prayer with her Heavenly Father and Blessed Mother. All who knew her can attest to the unconditional love she showered upon others. A faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend – Marie now joins the communion of angels and saints where she will enjoy countless hours of cooking, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and singing with the best of company. Marie’s legacy of love and servant leadership will live on through all those she encountered during her journey.
The family would like to thank the staff of Woodland Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Diamondhead for their love and care of Mrs. Pique during the past three years, as well as Vital Caring Hospice for providing her the utmost comfort and peace during this time. They would also like to thank the many priests, deacons, sisters, and religious throughout the Diocese of Biloxi, as well as the family and friends who have prayed for, loved, and supported Marie and her family throughout the years.
