Margie Elaine Patton Dyer, age 80, of Gulfport, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 in Gulfport.
Margie was born in Bay St. Louis on October 4, 1933. She, her husband, and her sons moved to Reno, Nevada residing in that area until 1993. She worked in various positions. In her early years, she was very active in her church, served on the board of the Rainbow Girls, a member of Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She was the first lady in the history of Nevada to run for Governor.
Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by her husband Charles Bruce Dyer, Sr., her brother Bobby Patton, her father Orbie Martin Patton, Sr., her mother Alma Patton, her son John Patton Dyer, her sister-in-law Esther Patton and brother-in-law Bob Dyer.
Survivors include her sons Charles Bruce Dyer, Jr., (Karen) and James Dyer (Surrena), six granddaughters Katie, Olivia, Sarah, Jenny and Kristina Dyer and Becky Barkdull; grandsons Jeff & Kyle Barkdull, and Brandon & Levi Dyer, step-son, Charles Butch Dyer, brothers, Orbie Patton, Jr. (Shirley) and Jack Patton and sister-in-law Ruth Dyer.
Visitation will be held at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport on Friday, September 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. The Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m.
