Margaret Ann Buck Marks, age 93 and a lifelong resident of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in Long Beach.

Margaret Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn L. and Gail Buck; her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Marks, Jr.; her brothers, Glenn H. Buck, James “Jim” L. Buck, and Frank W. Buck.

She is survived by her children, Gail Ann McCreary (Frank), Rosemary Wineki (Steve) of Pensacola, FL, David Marks (Jackie), Julie Hatch (Steve) of Long Beach, and Larry Marks (Beulah) of Pass Christian; her grandchildren, Frank R. (Ben) McCreary, IV of La Crosse, WI, John McCreary of Long Beach, LeAnna Miller of Panama City , FL, Stephen Marks (Cece) of Laurel, MS, Sarah Bentz (William) of Pass Christian, Brice Marks (Lindsay) of Metairie, LA, Bryan Marks of Memphis, TN, and Cameron Hatch (Kayla) of Ocoee, FL; her nine great grandchildren; and her four great-great grandchildren.

Margaret Ann was born in the Handsboro community and was a member of the Handsboro Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1947 and attended Augustana College and Bowling Green (KY) School of Business.

She was an avid reader of historical non-fiction, a self-taught Mississippi Gulf Coast historian, and lover of crossword puzzles and Jeopardy (where she was rarely stumped by a question).

Margaret Ann worked for Hancock Bank, Confederate Inn and Restaurant, Sears Department Store, and Gray Sales Company (La-Z-Boy distributor). During her retirement years, she planned and conducted tours and trips for Hancock Bank, Coastliner, and other organizations in which she used her extensive knowledge of Mississippi and coastal history.

She was an active member of TOPS for over 30 years, serving as treasurer for many years, and the Coast Chapter of Mississippi Power Company Retirees group as the spouse of a retiree.

The family extends sincere thanks to Brenda Chapman and her staff at Senior Oaks Personal Care Home in Long Beach, and to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care they provided to Margaret Ann.

A visitation will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., with the funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport.
