Mabel Olivia Mitchell, 85, of Pass Christian, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at Lakeview Nursing Center in Gulfport.
Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Waveland and a life-long resident of Pass Christian in the Pineville community. She was a school bus driver for the Harrison County School System. She was known as ""Momma Mitchell"" and her routes were in the Pineville and North Gulfport communities.
Mrs. Mitchell was very involved in local politics and helping run the election polls. She loved to travel, play cards and the penny slots at local casinos. Visiting and talking with her family and friends was her joy.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Mitchell; parents, Vital and Ida Bourgeois; son, Kenneth Wayne Mitchell; grandson, Avery Mitchell; and her siblings, Vital Louis Bourgeois, Jr., Elliot Ladner, John Ladner, Edith Moore, Inez Caro, Zelida Ferell, Bernice Schmidt and Margeret Carey.
Survivors include her children, Dennis Mitchell, Penny Cooley (Rick), Jenny Park (Russ), Charles E. Mitchell, II (Julie) and Bobbie Blackwell (Wade); 9 grandchildren, Shane Mitchell, Destin Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, Courtney Brooks, Edward Cooley, Amanda Mitchell, Sam Mitchell and Josh Mitchell; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m., Friday, July 3 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Pass Christian.
Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
