Lucy Elise Pecoul Dessommes, 80, of Long Beach, died on March 20, 2010.
Mrs. Dessommes was born September 18, 1929, in Mississippi City, MS, and was baptized and married in St. James Catholic Church. She attended Mississippi City School, was a 1947 graduate of Gulfport High School, and was an active member of aÌ‚â‚Å“Club 47.â₝
aÌ‚â‚Å“Miss Lucyâ₝ was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS, for 44 years. She spent a decade serving the children of St. Thomas School as librarian. She reigned as Queen Rosalie of the Long Beach Carnival Association in 1976. An excellent cook, Lucy was the founder of the St. Thomas Lunchkins. She also founded the St. Thomas Quilters.
Mrs. Dessommes was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. Dessommes, and her parents, Ferdinand and Eldora Grant Pecoul. She is survived by three brothers: Monroe Cliburn, Ferdinand Pecoul, and Louis Joseph """"Jojo"""" Pecoul; three sisters, Betty Mae Pecoul Taylor, Martha Pecoul Sinopoli, and Catherine Pecoul Davis; her six children: Marcelle Elise Dessommes Patterson, Baxter (Christal) Dessommes, Carmen (Michael) Peters, Chantal Dessommes, Annette (Ronnie) Rhea, and Maria (G. Benjamin) Ward; eleven grandchildren: Carmen (Jeff) Manley, Amanda Patterson (Joseph Lawhorne), Ben Patterson, Claire Elise Patterson, Shelby Dessommes, Gloria (Eric) Gassiott, Gregory (Jessica) Peters, Laura Leigh Peters, Lucy Ann Polsinelli, Louise Polsinelli, and William Ward; and three great-grandchildren: Alexandra Peters, Cade Peters, and Landon Gassiott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where friends may visit from 9:30 - 10:30.
Interment will be in Long Beach City Cemetery.
