Mrs. Lucile Crowder, 88, of Long Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 8, 2015.
Mrs. Crowder was born in Magnolia, MS, on July 17, 1927 to Alvie Felder Williams and Mary Sandifer Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Linzy Crowder, and her siblings, Aubrey Williams, Nolan Williams, Bill Williams, Joel Williams, Jewel Lee, Alma Richmond and Era Grimes.
Lucile is survived by those who were privileged to have her in their lives: Diane Bennett of Jackson, Jenny Crowder of Long Beach, Joseph Crowder of Long Beach, Allan Bennett, Jr. of St. Paul, MN, Julia (Tyler) Cook of Atlanta, GA, Holden Crowder of Long Beach, Shelley Dalrymple of Long Beach, Marie Smith of Brandon and Gloria Crowder of Long Beach.
Lucile graduated from Progress High School where she was voted ""Best Dressed"" usually wearing clothes she had made herself. At age 19, she moved to Biloxi to become a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She often referred to this period as one of the best times of her life.
It was in Biloxi that she met her husband, James. Later she worked as a seamstress at South MS Regional Center. As a military wife, Mrs. Crowder was able to travel the country and world and to live in places such as Germany, Oregon, Hawaii, Arizona and Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Long Beach where she made life-long friends. Lucile loved to read, work in her yard, and grow plants; however, her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered and cherished by her loved ones as a kind, gentle, patient, funny and classy lady.
The Crowder family would like to express their gratitude to those who lovingly and professionally cared for their mother: Tender Hands and Camellia Hospice, especially caregiver, Tanya Swann and nurse Susan Phillips.
