Lowell Showalter

Lowell Everest Showalter, 66, resident of Diamondhead, Mississippi, died peacefully on October 10, 2006 at his home after an extended illness.
Lowell was preceded in death by his father, William A.J. Showalter, and sister, Peggy Jill Showalter.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Danielson Showalter, a native of Gulfport, Mississippi; his mother Betty Druhot and stepfather Pete Druhot (Englewood, Florida); his children Brian C. Showalter (New Smyrna Beach, Florida); Paige E. Rispoli (Margate, Florida); Stacey E. Breland (Rock Springs, Georgia), and Matthew E. Showalter; brothers and sisters William L. Showalter (Niceville, Florida), Jeffrey L. Showalter (Englewood, Florida), Joyce Hoffman (Marianna, Florida), David L. Showalter (Bryan, Ohio), Teddy L. Showalter (La Quinta, California), Jannette Huggins (Lincolnton, North Carolina), and stepdaughter Linda Ann Robbins (Tucson, Arizona). Lowell also leaves behind 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Showalter was born in Pulaski, Ohio July 25, 1940. A graduate of Bryan High School in Ohio, he moved to South Florida where he spent the majority of his life. While living there, he served in the Army Reserves as a Military Police Procedures Instructor. During his career as a Nursery Supervisor with Broward County, Florida, Lowell was instrumental in distributing and planting seedlings from the Gulf CoastaÌ‚â‚â„¢s Friendship Oak in public places. As a Horticultural Arborist, he was responsible for City of Boca Raton Beautification Division. Mr. Showalter served on the Broward County Historical Commission and the City of Plantation Landscape Planning and Review Board for many years. After retirement, he and Barbara moved to the community of Diamondhead and became members of the Hancock County Historical Society. The remainder of his years was spent playing bridge, model railroading, reading, and enjoying his friends and family.
Sincere thanks are given to the Quality Hospice nurses and staff who rendered compassionate and professional care of the highest standards to Lowell and the family.
Lowell Showalter was a loving and caring person who will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Gulf Coast Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, where friends may call an hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
