Louise "Lou" Black

Louise V. Black, age 98, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on August 26, 2026, in Gulfport. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose gracious spirit, kindness, and authentic Southern charm touched the lives of all who knew her.

Louise was a homemaker who devoted much of her life to her family and to the people and organizations she cared about. She received her high school education in New Orleans and continued her education at Perkinston Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport and was actively involved in her community. Louise served as a Board Member of the Gulfport Little Theatre and enjoyed giving her time to charitable causes. Her interests included reading, charity work, the Red Cross, theater, crossword puzzles, and her daily devotionals. She was known by those close to her as a gracious and loving lady who was truly one-of-a-kind. She treated everyone like family and was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Black; her mother, Bertha Vinson; her father, Glenn Vinson; her brother, Buddy Vinson; and her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Massey. .

Louise is survived by her two sons, George "Buck" Black (Cheryl) and Robert "Bob" Black (Melanie); her sister, Betty Walton; a son-in-law, John Gant Massey; six grandchildren, Heather McClantoc (Michael), Shannon Black, Ryan Black, Jim Black (Ashley), Will Black (Judy), and Eric Black (Brooke); and seven great-grandchildren, Delaney McClantoc, Dempsey McClantoc, Logan Black, Janey Black, Karli Black, Rian Black and Olivia Black. 

Louise will be remembered for her kindness, loving nature, gracious presence, and the special way she made everyone feel like family. Her authentic Southern charm and one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed, but the love and memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:30 - 11 am at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS. The funeral service will be at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, The World War II Museum in New Orleans, United Way of South Mississippi, or The Salvation Army.

May her memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
