Louis Nunez, III was born October 16, 1952. He passed on July 12, 2024, at the age of 71.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Nunez, Jr. and Rosalie Nunez; and his sister, Joan Ann Nunez Gaudet.
Louis was married to Melanie Nunez for 46 years. They had 3 children, Louis Nunez IV (Alison), Mandie Necaise (Craig), and Mollie Nunez (Jillian); 7 grandchildren, Taylor Necaise, Trista Necaise, Gracie Nunez, Kadence Ladner, Isabella Ladner, Alona Nunez, and Jude Thomas Nunez; and 9 nieces and nephews, Holly Adams (Mark), Sheri LaCava (Steve), Dana Breaux (Steve), Gina Wilson (Mark), Johnny Appel IV, Tiffany Martin (Kevin), Ashley Appel, Kelly Appel (Matt), and Brandy Appel (Brian). He is also survived by many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and long time friends who were family.
Louis was born in New Orleans, moved to St. Bernard as a teenager. He attended Chalmette High School and met his future wife, Melanie, on a student council trip in 1969. Louis served in the Army National Guard in Louisiana from 1971-1977. Louis and Melanie were married in 1978 and had Lou, Mandie, and Mollie and lived in Chalmette. In 1992, they moved to Diamondhead, MS. He became a member of Annunciation Catholic Church. Louis always worked hard at Tenneco, then offshore with Vastar Oil and Gas. Later, he had the opportunity to work for W&T Oil & Gas. His favorite job of all time was working for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office. All the while, making lots of friends along the way. Louis was blessed to have lifelong friends that always found some project to work on. This group of guys repaired and worked on cars, trucks, built homes, garages, and repaired too many roofs to count. They never charged anyone but worked for lunch and maybe some beer. This group of guys was known as "Riff Raff Construction".
Louis handed down all his skills, expertise, work ethics and pride to his children. He taught them to be respectful and to always be true to yourself and stand up for what you believe.
Lou, Mandie, and Mollie all learned how to be self-sufficient and to help others whenever they could. He passed down his love of working offshore to Lou who now works for Oceaneering. He always knew it was hard to be gone as much as he was working offshore, but it is a good place to be able to provide for the family.
Louis always enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips with a great group of friends. He did find a passion for golf and enjoyed playing in tournaments for fundraisers; he may not have won, but it is really about being with friends.
We would like to give a special thanks to Vital Caring Home Health, Deaconess Home Health and Hospice, especially Christina Isbill RN, for the care and compassion shown.
If anyone would like to donate in memory of Louis, we would appreciate a donation made to Annunciation Catholic Church.
