1st Sgt. Louis LeFay Frierson, 74, of Diamondhead, MS, died Tuesday November 19, 2013 in Diamondhead.
Mr. Frierson served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 3 years and he then transferred into the Army where he served as a drill Sgt. and then served 2 tours in Vietnam. Ending his tours, he received the Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, The Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and The Meritorious Service Medal. After serving 25 years of military service, Mr. Frierson retired and returned to Columbia, South Carolina where he went to work for the State Law Enforcement Department (SLED), then served as a State Constable for Governor Riley.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Diamondhead, MS and a member of Chapter 771 Purple Heart Association.
He was preceded in death by parents, Grover and Lela Frierson, brothers, Howard, Wallace, and Bernie Frierson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sylvia Frierson and he was the heart of her soul and love of her life. He is also survived by his daughter of the heart, Elizabeth (Tom)Brown, step-daughters, Marilyn Cunningham and Kimberly (Glen) Harriel, grandchildren, Heather Adams, Ashton Levens, Bethany Brown, Tyler Levens, and Caleb Brown and 3 great-grandchildren. His extended family includes his ""Brothers-in-Arms with ACO 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry and the Big Red One, 1st Infantry Division.
The family would like to thank his daughter, Elizabeth Brown, Jim Rae, Fred Dack, Michael Moore, Ann Allen, Don Anderson, Tommy Bryant, Freddy, Francis Wilson, Mary Anne McRaney, Gayle Wiemers, and Robin Swarthout of Home Instead, and all the caring nurses on the Oncology Ward 3D at Memorial Hospital as well as Canon Hospice.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 25, 2013 from 4 - 5 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. The funeral service will begin at 5 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at 2:30 pm Monday in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
