Obituary

In Loving Memory of Lottie Varnado-Williams

February 6, 1939-September 21, 2026

With hearts filled with both gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Lottie Varnado-Williams. Lottie was a woman who loved her family deeply and brought warmth, strength, and character to the lives of those around her.

Even in the final days, she blessed her family with determination, humor, honesty, and gratitude that were uniquely her own. She remained appreciative to those who lovingly cared for and attended to her needs. Lottie peacefully transitioned in the early morning hours of September 21, 2026, at the age of 87. She was surrounded by her devoted husband and family members.

Lottie was a woman of beauty, strength, and grace. Born in Magnolia, Mississippi, in Pike County, she came from humble beginnings and grew up surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was a devoted daughter to Howard and Maggie Lee Varnado, who were called home before her. In addition, she joins siblings Artist M. Varnado-Williams, Marion Bryant, Juanita Pierce, Patricia Ann Varnado, and brother Charles N. Varnado in eternal rest.

Lottie attended Pike County Agricultural High School, graduating in 1956. After high school, she moved to San Francisco, California, where she attended San Francisco State University. She later began a career with Sears, Roebuck and Company as a retail merchandiser. Lottie was a dedicated and loyal employee, remaining with the company until her retirement in 1998.

In 1986, Lottie reunited with her high school sweetheart, Harrison Williams, and the two were married. Together, they built a life grounded in love, companionship, faith, and family. They lived in Waukegan, Illinois, before relocating to Slidell, Louisiana, and eventually making their home in Diamondhead, Mississippi, where they spent the last 20 years together.

Lottie was also a woman of faith and service. When Lottie lived in San Francisco, she was a faithful member of Mount Trinity Baptist Church and was a devoted member of the choir. After relocating back south, she joined and became a faithful member of Pentecost Missionary Baptist Church in Slidell, Louisiana, where she served in various roles, including President of the Church Choir, choir member, and Sunday School teacher. Her service reflected her love for God, her church, and her community.

Lottie enjoyed making life beautiful and creating memories with the people she loved. Among her favorite pastimes were home decorating, golfing, traveling, bowling, gardening, attending social banquets, family gatherings and her church services. A devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, she loved watching and excitedly cheering on her team. She also had a special affection for all shades of purple and her home and closets are filled with decorative items, clothing and hats reflecting this fondness. Lottie embraced life and the things that brought her happiness.

Lottie leaves to cherish her memory her loyal and loving husband of 38 years, Harrison Williams; her devoted son, Eric McDonnell (Hydra) of Oakland, California; her grandchildren, Erica McDonnell-Nutting (Anthony) of San Francisco, California; Emerald McDonnell, and Todd McDonnell of Vallejo, California; and her younger brother, Howard Varnado of San Jose, California.

Her memory will also be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, close friends, and members of her church community.

Lottie will be remembered not simply for the years she lived, but for the love, laughter, wisdom, faith, and unforgettable spirit she shared throughout those years. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she gave so freely and the memories she created will remain with her family forever.

Lottie Varnado-Williams deeply loved and cared for her family, and the love she shared will remain in their hearts forever. She was a source of strength, kindness, and inspiration to those who knew and loved her. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her memory and legacy will continue to live on through her family.
