Lois Necaise Curtiss, age 92, died peacefully at her home in Long Beach, MS, on Wednesday, March 16th.
Lois was born to John and Philomene Necaise in Delisle, MS on February, 27, 1924. She grew up there and graduated from Pass Christian High School, in the class of 1941. She married Floyd Curtiss and became an Air Force wife, following him across the country from coast to coast. While her husband was fulfilling his duties as a soldier, she maintained the home and raised their five children. She was active in various school PTAs, Girl Scouts, and church activities in many of the communities where she lived.
After thirty one years of service to the country, her husband retired and established a home in Long Beach, MS, where she lived the remainder of her life. She continued to be a devoted wife and mother who loved sewing, the arts, traveling, and the daily crossword puzzle. She believed in service to others and as a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Condolence Committee, and the church choir over the years. She was also enjoyed volunteering at the Long Beach Food Pantry for many years, where she made many wonderful friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Philomene Necaise; her husband, CMSGT Floyd Curtiss, USAF, Ret.; her son, Stephen Curtiss; three brothers, Merlin, Melvin, and J.C. Necaise; two sisters, Mattie Mitchell and Grace Cunningham; and a half-sister, Lelia Payne.
She is survived by her daughters Kathy (Brian) Baker, Susan (Eddie) Ware, Patti (Buddy) Cropper, and Anita (Nick) McCullough; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to her granddaughters, and the caregivers at The Dixie White House, and Loving Care Home Health Care who helped her through her illness.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the church followed by burial in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
