Lloyd J. Delahorne, age 84, resident of Lago Vista, TX, passed away on July 4, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Breaux Bridge, LA in 1922. He retired from military service in the Army in 1968 after 27 years of active duty. He joined the Army in 1941 and served during WWII in the Philippines. He was captured on Corregidor on May 5, 1942 and spent 3 years and 4 months as a POW in Tanagawa, Japan. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service during WWII. After his retirement, Lloyd was a member of the American Ex-POW, Magnolia Chapter of Mississippi, VFW Post 3267 of Harahan, LA and the American Legion.
He was an avid fisherman, and most of his leisure time throughout his life was spent on the water. From 1985 to 1997 he and his wife Shirley lived in Bay St. Louis, where Lloyd could be found heading out to fish as soon as it was light enough each day. He owned some type of boat throughout most of his life and truly was happiest out on the water with a rod and reel.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Delahorne; son, Thomas Delahorne of Hope Mills, NC; daughter, Vicky Batson of Round Rock, TX; stepson, Mark Hutchison of Clear Lake, TX; twin brother, Floyd Delahorne of Tulsa, OK; older brother, Roosevelt Delahorne of Colfax, LA; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the RIEMANN FAMILY'S Riemann Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the National Prisoner of War Museum, Andersonville National Historic Site, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, GA.
