Lloyd Lee ""Jimmy"" Brenner, 88, of Tupelo passed away in the Seashore Highlands Memory Care Unit in Gulfport on the morning of March 28, 2016 after an illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alma Moore Brenner and Charles Paul Brenner and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances ""Fran"" Louise Brenner (nee Barlow) four children, James Philip Brenner of Ocean Springs, Charles Harmon Brenner (Lucy) of Jackson, Kathryn Louise Benton (Richard) of Gulfport and Carol Ann Ball (Michael) of Starkville, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two brothers, Benjamin ""Benny"" Brenner of Bastrop, La. and Paul Brenner of Cullman, Ala.
He was born in Scott on Oct. 26, 1927 and grew up on the Delta and Pine Land Company Plantation. In his youth, he enjoyed exploring the fields and forests of his delta home and boating in Deer Creek. After graduating high school, he volunteered for the navy and served in World War II and the Korean War, including a deployment to the Mediterranean aboard the destroyer USS Harlan R. Dickson. After leaving the navy, he went to work in the insurance business and settled down in Leland to raise his family. Brenner and his family eventually relocated to Tupelo and he called the town home for most of his adult life. In 2013 he and Fran relocated to Seashore Highlands in Gulfport to live out their sunsets.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing, Sunday dinners, Jerry Clower, roasted peanuts and sharing his sea stories with anyone who would listen. He had a way with children, animals and strangers and was well known as a practical joker. Friends and associates of his learned very quickly to check his hand for a buzzer before they shook it.
He was a devout Baptist all his life and was an active member of Cavalry Baptist Church in Tupelo. At Cavalry, he served as a deacon and an usher for several years. For many years he was also an active member of the Lions Clubs in both Leland and Tupelo.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m., on Wednesday, March 30th at The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME located at 11280 Three Rivers Rd., in Gulfport. The service will directly follow at 11 a.m., with Rev.
