Livingston C. "Ike" Fortner
February 1, 1925 — April 19, 2016
Livingston C. ""Ike"" Fortner, 91, passed away peacefully on April 19th at 7:40 p.m., with his wife, Dorothy Meadows Fortner and his son-in-law, Rick Baragar at his side. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Ike was born on Feb 1, 1925 in Gulfport, MS. He was a lifetime resident of Gulfport except while serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Upon returning to Gulfport, Ike worked as an insurance adjuster but was best known for his car sales where he worked at J. J. Harry's Chevrolet, Buick and Turan Foley Chevrolet, Buick. He was a member of Gulfport BPOE #978, where he held positions as Secretary, Treasurer and Exalted Ruler. He holds an Honorary Lifetime Membership. Ike was an avid fisherman and always kept his family and friends stocked with fresh fish until his fishing buddies passed and his own health started to decline. He and Dot traveled numerous times in their motorhome to several different fishing places.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mimi Richton.
Mr. Fortner's survivors include his wife, Dorothy Meadows Fortner of 48 years; his sister, Ethel Mae Fillingame of Bay St Louis; three step-daughters Willa Jean Baragar (Rick) and Bettye Jo Fairley, both of Gulfport, and Shelia Morrison of Slidell, LA; nine step grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren; eight step great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Dot and family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard Tilley, Dr. Chad Weeks, Medasys Home Health and Home in Kare Hospice (Jamie, Patrick and Shelia) for their outstanding care, comfort, and support to Ike and the family during his final days.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport with a visitation for family and friends from 1:00 PM until the service. A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
