Lionel M. Keel, age 85, of Pass Christian passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Hazel (Peranich) Keel; and his brother, Carl Edward Keel and sister-in-law, Mildred ""Mit"" (Klyce) Keel.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Chesnutt Keel; his four sons and daughter-in-laws, Denny and Ann Marie (Saussy) Keel of Cypress, TX, Lenny and Connie (Clark) Keel of Pass Christian, MS, Freddy and Alyce (Negrotto) Keel of Madison, MS, and Rodney and Kimberly (Moran) Keel of Pass Christian, MS; and his grandchildren, Darren and Darcy Keel of Marietta, GA, Brittany Saussy-Keel of Dallas, TX, Lindsey Keel of Pass Christian, MS, and Brandon Keel and Blake Keel, both of Madison, MS.
He graduated as Salutatorian from Pass Christian High School. He married Christine Chesnutt of Moultrie, GA in April of 1955 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pass Christian. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Valley Forge. In 1966 Lionel became the third generation to own and manage W.S. Keel Lumber Company in Pass Christian. He was a man of quiet faith who deeply loved his wife, sons and their families. He often said the best times of his life were spent fishing or hunting with his sons. He enjoyed his horses and hunting dogs.
His family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff and administration of One Magnolia Place, Assisted Living Center, and Lakeview Nursing Home for their kindness and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 22342 Evangeline Rd, Pass Christian, MS 39571.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Pass Christian, with a visitation for family and friends from 11:00 a.m. until the Mass. Interment will be in New DeLisle Cemetery, Pass Christian, MS.
