Lionel T. Fayard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Long Beach community, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Gulfport, MS. Born on October 9, 1936, in Long Beach, MS, Lionel lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those around him.
A veteran of the Air Force, Lionel demonstrated his service and devotion early in life before embarking on a distinguished career in the building supply industry. For 26 years, he was employed at Coast Wholesale Building Supply with the later 10 years as a manager, where his leadership was valued and respected. Later, he co-owned Southern Wholesale Supply Company, continuing to contribute to the industry that he knew so well.
Lionel was a one-of-a-kind person known for always helping others. His love of sports, particularly softball, shone brightly throughout his life. He not only played but also managed the Coast Wholesale Building Supply Company team, leading them to multiple tournament victories and competitions reaching as far as New York. These moments of camaraderie and teamwork were central to his life's joy.
His personal story began with a memorable meeting at St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he borrowed a tennis racket from his future wife. This moment marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership with Sybill Fayard, his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 71 years. Together, they built a family and a legacy grounded in love and faith.
Lionel was a proud member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where his faith was an important cornerstone of his life. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him and cherished his warm spirit.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sybill Fayard; son, Lionel Fayard, Jr. "Butch," and his wife Jessa; daughter, Ramona Flemming, and her husband Mike; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Their love and memories honor the life he led.
Lionel was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Louvina Fayard; son, Kirk Fayard; and siblings Godfrey Fayard, Jeffery Fayard, Helen O'Neal, Vivian Black, Theresa Behrens, Vera Nicholson, and Billie Fayard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 720 Beach Blvd E, Long Beach, MS, followed by a graveside service at Gulf Pines Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
Lionel's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him—a man whose kindness, love of life, and commitment to others set him apart.
