Linda Gail Pate (Cogsdil) Williams went home to be with her Lord on February 28, 2013 in New Orleans, LA, following a long and difficult battle with post surgical complications. Linda was born January 2, 1941, in Cedar Glades, Arkansas to Hansel William Pate and Ruby Lee (Herron) Pate. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving Linda to celebrate her home-going is her husband, Thomas R. Williams, and her daughter, Christina Lee Cogsdil, both of Biloxi, MS; one step-daughter, Tammie Mae Sanders of Niceville, FL; and one step-son, Thomas K. Williams (Michelle) of Biloxi, MS; four step-granddaughters; and two step-grandsons. She also had, two step-sisters, Clemy Russell and Mary McIntosh, both of California. Most recently one honorary Danish granddaughter, Leah Nielsen of Aarhus, Denmark born August 23, 2012.
Linda attended high school in Hot Springs, Arkansas and Hobbs, New Mexico She attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. She moved to the Gulf Coast in January 1967 and started a career in Civil Service at Keesler Air Force Base in 1969. She transferred in 1976 to the Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space C enter from which she retired in June 2001, after 32 years of faithful service to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Linda was active in Woolmarket Baptist Church and especially enjoyed working with children. She took every opportunity to tell others about her precious Lord, especially young children and youth. Many friends at WBC will miss her sweet smile and loving heartfelt hugs.
Linda also enjoyed making afghans and giving them as gifts to those the Lord laid on her heart. Most recently she enjoyed making baby afghans and quilts and donating them to the Women's Resource Center, a project started by Linda and her mother, Ruby Qualls.
Visitation will be Monday, March 4, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Biloxi. The funeral service is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with interment to follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Linda to the Woolmarket Baptist Church building fund of Gideons International.
