Linda Nell Nunnery Taquino

Linda Nell Nunnery Taquino died peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, age 78, at Hidden Springs in McKinney, TX. Cherished by all who knew her, she spent most of the last two years in the McKinney area to be close to her youngest grandchild, and will be remembered as a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Mrs. Taquino was a native of Hattiesburg, MS, and a resident of Diamondhead, MS, since 1982. She received her education in Mississippi, attending Hinds County Jr. College in Jackson where she was a member of the Hinds Hi-Steppers, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, and she later graduated from Mississippi College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. After graduation, she worked professionally as a medical technologist, moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She worked at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Biloxi where she met Capt. Maurice August Taquino, MD. They married in Gulfport in December of 1978 and later made their home in Diamondhead. In the early 1980s, she obtained her real estate broker’s license and worked as a broker and agent, running her own business called Main Line Ltd. Real Estate until the 1990s. She obtained her contractor’s license and continued to work in real estate and property management until retiring in the early 2010s.

Beyond her professional achievements, Linda enjoyed a rich variety of hobbies throughout her life. She had a love for painting, sewing, crocheting, leather work, and billiards. Her commitment to her family was evident as she led her daughters’ Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops throughout the 1990s. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Linda was also involved in community organizations, including the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her passion for art led her to serve as a Board Member and Treasurer for the Dusti Bongé Art Foundation in Biloxi, MS.

She was preceded in death by her first daughter, Ashley Ann Taquino, in 1981; her parents, William Rush Nunnery, Sr. and Laura Nell Taylor Nunnery, in 2006; and her husband of 28 years, Capt. Maurice August Taquino, MD, in 2006.

She is survived by two daughters (Laura Rose-Marie Taquino of Kirkland, WA; and Bonnie Ila-Marie Taquino of McKinney, TX), two step-sons (Maurice August Taquino of Birmingham, AL; and Lawrence McDougal Taquino of Katy, TX), four grandchildren (Marshall August O’Neal of McKinney, TX; Maureen Yvonne Taquino LeNeave of Covington, KY; Alister Colby Taquino of Katy, TX; and Lawson Riley Taquino of Katy, TX), and her older brother William Rush Nunnery, Jr. of Long Beach, MS.
