Linda Loraine Zacharias Schonewitz

In Loving Memory of a Devoted Mother, GiGi, and Friend.

Born on December 11, 1952, our beloved mother and GiGi peacefully passed away at home on February 22, 2026, at the age of 73.

She was a woman of strength, grit, and an enormous heart. As the proud owner of Northend Truck Sales, she bought and sold heavy trucks & equipment, trailers, etc. and could drive them and work on them just as good as anyone in the shop. There wasn’t much she couldn’t do when she set her mind to it. Her work ethic and determination earned her the respect of everyone who knew her.

She was also a dedicated and passionate part of Halos Investigations, an organization devoted to helping missing and trafficked children. Holding a private investigator’s license, she poured her heart into that work, fighting for those who could not fight for themselves.

She had a fearless spirit and a love for life. She raced dirt track cars and proudly won several Powder Puff races, proving time and again that she was as bold as she was capable. She loved spending time with her family, especially Sunday gatherings at her home filled with cooking, eating, laughter, and watching New Orleans Saints football. She was an avid Saints fan and rarely missed a game, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty.

Above all else, her greatest joy was being a mother and a GiGi.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas Schonewitz Sr.; her father, D.A. Zacharias; her mother, Vergie Bell Zacharias; her brothers, Berkin Hebert Sr., Joseph “Andrew” Zacharias, and D.A. “Jimmy” Zacharias; and her sisters, Edith Mount, Vivian Jernigan, Beverly Hebert, Dorothy Furr, and Karen Lloyd.

She is survived by her two loving children, Denise Morris (Ethan) of D’Iberville and Douglas “Bubba” Schonewitz Jr. (Jeneen) of McHenry; six cherished grandchildren, Bailley Price, Austin Schonewitz, Gunner Price, Jenson Cain, Kaleigh “Gracie” Schonewitz, and Colton Schonewitz; and one precious great-grandchild, Charleigh Price, each of whom was the light of her life; 2 brothers, Bervick “Fatty” Hebert, Biloxi and Tommy Hebert, Sr, D'Iberville.  She was the backbone, the pillar, the steady presence her family leaned on. To them, she was everything.

She leaves behind two lifelong best friends, Yvonne Spicer and Debbie Hardy, who had become more like sisters than friends — a bond of love and loyalty that will endure forever.

Everyone who met her loved her. She was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, never hesitating to lend a hand or open her heart. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and in the countless lives she touched.
