Retired Navy Counselor Chief Petty Officer Lester Loyd Hill passed quietly on July 4, 2016, at the Veteran Center in Biloxi, MS. Chief Hill was born 26 June 1935 in Morrow, Ohio. He is the son of the late Odis Hill of Warren County, Ohio, and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Ford Hill, son Loyd Hill, and daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Kenneth Barbor.
Chief Hill enlisted in the Navy in 1952, serving in theater during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Dayton, Ohio, where he worked for the National Cash Register Company and where he met Ruth. He re-entered the Navy in 1970, serving in numerous ships and recruiting districts until his retirement in 1993. Following his Navy career, he was a postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years.
Chief Hill is a member of the Dayton Masonic Temple and the Diamondhead Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Internment, officiated by Captain Robert Garrett, will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 12:30 PM on Friday, July 8, 2016.
