Leonard James Giacone

Leonard James Giacone was born in Independence, Louisiana on October 22, 1936, and died peacefully on February 1, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
Len is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Sherry Day Giacone of Biloxi and his sister, Rosemary Giacone of Kenner, LA.
Len knew in his early teens that he wanted to work in the broadcasting business. He followed his dream and enjoyed a long career over the past 60 years in the industry that he loved, in both radio and television. In June of 2015, illness forced him to retire from the job and people he loved at WXXV-TV.
A supporter of legalized gaming in Mississippi, he volunteered his time to that effort. After it passed he secured work with Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis and Biloxi as the Public Relations Manager. It was a job that he loved and felt the employees were like family.
Len had a huge love of life and people. His smile and sense of humor were infectious, putting others at ease. It seemed that he never met a stranger only potential new friends. His wife, Sherry was the love of his life and he adored her.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and had a strong sense of community. He was a past member of the Jaycees, the Civitan Club and the Lions Club. He also served as Program Chairman, Board Member and President of the Rotary Club of Biloxi; Board Member and Vice President of the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce; Treasurer, Board Chairman and Chairman of Annual Fund Raiser for the Biloxi Salvation Army.
A one hour visitation will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi on Thursday, February 11, 2016, from 12:00 to 1:00pm and is open to the public. A small private service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery.
