Leona Dean Jackson, age 87, passed away August 12, 2014 in Long Beach.
Leona grew up in Tribiett, Mississippi. She graduated from Leland High School and Delta Sate Teachers College. While at Delta State she met the love of her life, Charlie and they married in 1951. She and Charlie moved to Memphis, TN where they lived for over 50 years and raised their only child, Chip. Leona worked as the office manager for Jetco for 50 years before her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, in particular canning her famous pickles, caring for her loved ones when they were sick, participating in the King Cotton Clock Club where she served as the Treasurer and traveling to the coast to visit her son and family. In 2010 Leona and Charlie moved to Long Bach to be near them. The family would like to thank Chapman Oaks in Long Beach for their special care they provided for Leona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wirt and Anniston Dean; sister, Freda Bullock; brothers, Wirt Jr. and Billy Dean.
She is survived by her husband, Charles ""Charlie"" Jackson, Jr.; her son and daughter in law, Chip and Debra Jackson; grandchildren, Melanie (Jeremy) Flowers, Lauren (Chris) Tucker, Chris Jackson, Elijah Jackson, and Stella Jackson; great grandchildren, Bryce and Bailey Flowers.
During her lifetime, Leona participated in many medical studies through the University of Tennesse and in death continue her contributions by donating her body to the University of Mississippi.
The family has chosen to have a celebration of life service at a later date. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport served the family.
