Leo B. Kowal

December 27, 1926 — November 8, 2014

Leo Bill Kowal moved on to Heaven on November 8, 2014
Leo is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Michael and Denise; his grandchildren; Rachel and Ryan, brother and sister-in-law; Walter and Angie; nieces and nephews: Sandra, Steven, Kenny and Ken, and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Born in Jedburgh, Saskatchewan on December 27, 1926, he spent his early years working the family farm is Fosston, Saskatchewan. Leo attended the University of Saskatchewan, and graduated as a Chemical Engineer in 1948. Moving on to Montreal, Quebec, his first job was at Pittsburgh Industries; supervising the manufacture of plate glass. In 1955, he met Mary Ellen Decarie. They married and had a son, Michael, in 1965. A new opportunity arose for Leo in 1966, to run a new plastics manufacturing facility in Cobourg, Ontario, for Borg-Warner Chemicals. Leo accepted the new challenge and moved the family to Cobourg. Mary Ellen and Michael returned to Montreal in 1970. Opportunity knocked once again, in 1980, when Leo was offered the dream job of overseeing the construction and startup of a new Borg-Warner plastics manufacturing plant in Port Bienville, Pearlington, Mississippi. He immigrated to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to accept the position. In the course of plant startup and traveling back and forth from Mississippi to the head office in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Leo met Aimee Eunice Rogers. They married in 1982 and eventually settled in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Leo and Aimee shared a love of travel, golf and community service. They joined the Diamondhead Community Church in 1983. Leo went on to serve as President of the Hancock Chamber of Commerce. Then, after retirement in 1989, he served on the Foundation Board of the Hancock Medical Center for 18 years. Aimee passed away in 2000.
Leo will be remembered as a dedicated career man, a devoted husband and a strong, stern but loving father.
In accordance with Leo's wishes, there will not be a memorial service. Donations may be made, in his name, to Diamondhead Community Church.
