Larry Wayne Roberts age 60 of Vestry, Mississippi passed away Monday, February 6, 2017.
Larry was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and spent his early years in Long Beach, Mississippi. In 1970, he moved with his family to Titusville, Florida. Larry quickly adapted to the Florida lifestyle. He was talented baseball player, avid surfer and enjoyed waterskiing with his friends. Upon graduating Titusville High School, he was awarded an athletic scholarship for baseball to St. Johns River State College in Palatka, Florida. During his time at St. Johns, Larry was scouted by pro teams for his dual position ability as a catcher and pitcher. After graduation, Larry returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast with his family and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
Larry was self- employed as a contractor and specialty carpenter. In his early twenties, he moved to Dallas, Texas to take advantage of the growing construction market. Larry was a visionary with a talent for precise details. If there was a construction flaw, he had the ability to see it upon entering the room. Larry's attention to detail and exceptional talent allotted him many opportunities throughout his career.
Larry lived his early twenties exploring Dallas with his cousin Randy Roberts. Randy always believed in Larry and supported his endeavors. It was in Dallas where Larry met his former wife and raised his family. In 2011, Larry returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where he took on the task of updating his mother's childhood home in Vestry, Mississippi. His talent was well utilized in the Vestry community. Larry helped many and always enjoyed the opportunity to visit New Orleans to assist his uncle P.C. Havens with a project.
Larry had a charismatic personality. He never met a stranger, never passed on the opportunity to talk politics and rarely missed a day at the gym. Larry's big heart enabled him to find something special in everyone he met no matter their walk in life. The most evident characteristic of Larry was his faith in God. Through the trials and tribulations of this earthly world, Larry never surrendered his belief in God and the vision of a good plan for his life. As death gave way to victory, we rejoice that Larry now stands in the full knowledge of God's ultimate plan which is available for all those that choose to believe.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace (Jewel) Roberts of Vestry, MS and Mr. and Mrs. Dalton (Carrie) Havens of Vestry, MS; and his son, Sterling Wayne Roberts of Dallas, Texas.
Larry is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Forrest Wayne (Florence) Roberts of Long Beach, MS; brother, Bruce (Hope) Roberts of Poplarville, MS; sister, Rhonda F. Roberts of Pass Christian, MS; nephews, Colby Roberts of Dallas, Texas and Garrett (Alli) Roberts of Dallas, Texas; former wife, Cynthia Palmer Roberts of Justin, Texas; stepson, Shawn Palmer of Burney, Texas; and stepdaughter, Shiegha (Bobby) Fisher of Frisco, Texas.
