La Ferne Hegwood Baker, age 77, of Gulfport, passed away on December 5, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoye and Marjorie Cobb Hegwood, a sister, Barbara Ann Hegwood, a brother, Calvin Hegwood, and a grandson, Grant Yates.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John W. Baker, Sr., a daughter, Julie Yates, her sons, John W. (Thressa) Baker, Jr., and Steven (Elaine) Baker, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters, 1 brother, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mrs. Baker was a past-president of North Central Elementary PTA, and helped organize the local 4H Club. She loved cooking, sewing, knitting, embroidery, and researching genealogy. Her recipes and technique were sought by many and she was an excellent gardener. She was active in church activities teaching Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, and singing solo's and duet's in her beautiful soprano voice.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2016, in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
