In loving memory of Keyolan George Light.
Keyolan, better known as George by people in Biloxi passed away on July 8, 2016 at the age of 83. He was born in Hemlock, WV on September 12, 1932. The only child of George and Wadena (Cutright) Light who preceded him in passing. Keyolan is survived by his wife, Constance Jay, of 47 years of marriage. He is also survived by his two sons, Kevin and Eric, his daughter-in-law, Anna, dear family friends, Stacey and Brian Osberghaus, and faithful companion, Snowball. Keyolan was also blessed with six grandchildren. Kevin and Anna reside in Acworth, GA with their children, Andrew, Kyle, and Aiden. Eric resides in Mobile, AL with his three children Mackenzie, Savannah, and Ethan.
Keyolan graduated from high school in 1950 from Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Keyolan then attended Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV. He served four years in the ROTC while attending classes receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation in 1954, Keyolan received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in United States Air Force. He later attended graduate school at the Ohio State University where he met his future wife, Connie.
Keyolan attended flight school in Hondo, TX. He then served as a pilot during a tour in Vietnam with several more deployments to Southeast Asia totaling five years of foreign- service. While serving his country for twenty-eight years, Keyolan received several awards including the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal with three Bronze Stars, AF Presidential Unit Citation, AF Outstanding Unit Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Metal with twelve Oak Leaf Clusters, and AF Commendation Metal. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the 7 ACCS at Keesler Air Force Base. Keyolan flew several different types of aircraft during his service retiring as a Command Pilot.
Keyolan was an active member of the Biloxi Exchange Club for multiple years. He was also a member of the Capeville, VA Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed time reading science fiction and a good cup of coffee from Waffle House.
Keyolan will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift in Keyolan's name to St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. Services begin at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by the graveside service beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors.
