Kenneth Ray Simmons

Kenneth Ray Simmons, Sr., age 79, of Gulfport, passed away on June 7, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Virginia Simmons, his parents, Rennie and Thelma Simmons, 2 children, Melvin G. and Kevin P. Simmons, and 2 siblings, Vernon Simmons and Juanita Peleaz.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Ray (Sherry) Simmons, Jr., Curtis (Tina) Simmons, Stephen (Vicki) Simmons, and Trevor Simmons, his siblings, Hubert (Marie) Simmons, Harvey Simmons, Van Simmons, Ralph (Pat) Simmons, and Donna (Andy) Prince, 10 grandchildren, Kelly (John Tate), Curtis (Diane), Katherine, Stephanie (Matt), Patricia, Justin, Jeremy (Brittnye), Ray, Shawn (Alicia), and Nikki, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later retired from the VA in Gulfport after 35 years. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church where he led the music and was an ordained deacon and for several years, he coached football, baseball, softball, and basketball in various youth leagues. He enjoyed playing his harmonica and playing softball. He was also a member of the American Legion, Joe Graham Post 119.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, from 9 - 10 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 10 am in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
