Mrs. Kay Diane Cullifer Gunter, age 82, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home at the Claiborne at Gulfport Highlands in Gulfport, MS on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Mrs. Gunter was born in Gulfport, MS on June 25th, 1943, to parents Evelyn Duckworth and Sidney Cullifer Sr. and brother Sidney Cullifer, Jr., who have all preceded her in death.
She is also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, V. Baker Gunter, Jr. and is survived by her three children, Kevin Gunter and wife, Cindy; Samantha Wilson and husband, Andy; and Steven Gunter; her grandchildren, Christopher Deibert and wife, Halley; Caroline Pitts and her husband, Wesley, Rachel Gunter and Gavin Gunter; her great-grandchildren, Swayze Pitts, Maverick Pitts, Charlee Youngblood; her cousin, Rebecca Devitt and brother-in-law John Henegan and his wife, Morella.
Kay and Baker raised their family in McComb MS until settling on the Gulf Coast in 1998, where her family was from originally. She was a member of Burton Memorial Church where not only was she raised and married in, but she also became the secretary and worked there for many years until her retirement.
Kay leaves a legacy of what someone called her recently a “legendary mom” and she was. She loved her children fiercely and showed it every day of her life. She also adored her friends of more than 70 years, some of which we hope she is happily laughing with now.
Friends and family are invited to join the Gunter family for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 12 noon for visitation with services to follow at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15h at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church, corner of Pass Road & 22nd Ave., Gulfport, MS. Friends and family are also joined for a reception in the dining hall of the church following the service.
