Kathryn Magee

Kathryn Magee, 81, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus on Sunday, November 10, 2013. She was born July 7, 1932 in Franklinton, Louisiana, but spent the majority of her adult life in Long Beach, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband Troy of 46 years, her daughter Gretchen Magee-Hogue of Walnut Grove, MS, her brother Harold Otis Burkhalter and her parents James Otis and Nita Irene Burkhalter, all of Franklinton, LA.
She leaves behind three children, Gregory Allen Magee of New Orleans, LA, Dr. Jon Dirk Magee of Harrisonville, MO and Benita Magee Tucker and husband Jimmy Don Tucker of Crestview, FL. She leaves seven beautiful grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn and her husband Troy moved to Long Beach, Mississippi in 1957 to open a dry cleaners. Together they owned and operated Long Beach Dry Cleaners for over 48 years where Kathryn used her bookkeeping skills but her greatest passion was always sewing and alterations.
Kathryn and her husband had four children and enjoyed the beach and sailing. Together they were lifelong New Orleans Saints fans. She attended First Baptist Church and was active in numerous civic and business activities to include writing for the Gulf Coast Weekly newspaper in Long Beach, a member of the Mardi Gras carnival association and secretary/treasurer of the Mississippi Dry Cleaners Association.
In 2004, Kathryn moved to Colorado Springs to live with her daughter and son-in-law. After numerous falls, she chose to move to Union Printers Nursing Home, a historical site in the state of Colorado also known as the ""Castle on the Hill"".
A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Union Printers Home with staff, family, and friends in attendance where fond memories were shared.
Graveside services will be conducted by RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach on Saturday, November 23, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Long Beach City Cemetery where Kathryn will be placed beside her husband.
