Katherine Ann Brehm

d. April 11, 2013

Katherine Ann Brehm, age 91 and a resident of Biloxi, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Biloxi.
Her first home as a newlywed was a Quonset hut in Tokyo. It was the first of many moves and many homes for her.
Mrs. Brehm was born in Fort Atkinson, WI, where she was valedictorian of her class. She got a job in a neighboring town, but dreamed of seeing the world, so she became a secretary for the U.S. Army and sailed to post-war Tokyo.
She met and married Sgt. Fred E. Brehm of San Antonio TX, and they moved into their metal hut. She then moved back in with her parents and gave birth to Cheryl while her husband served in the Korean Conflict. After, the couple moved from base to base and the family grew - Karen, Mary, and Alan were born.
Mrs. Brehm was an Air Force wife extraordinaire, managing all the moves, new countries, and the family. When Fred served in a remote assignment during the Vietnam war, she took it in stride. She served as president of the Wiesbaden Area Officers Wives Club, and headed up the Keesler Red Cross Volunteers, in addition to PTA and CCD volunteer work.
Col. and Mrs. Brehm ended up back in Tokyo for his final command 25 years after meeting there. Retirement meant a return to the Gulf Coast and time to watch their grandson, Sean Kinney, grow up.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her daughter, Cheryl; and her daughter-in-law, Cecilia. She is survived by her children: Karen Brehm of Lubbock, TX, Mary and Mike Kinney of Biloxi, MS, and Alan Brehm and his fiancée Lynn Sweatman, both of Charleston, SC; and her grandson and his wife, Sean and Katherine Kinney of Key West, FL.
Katherine was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport.
