Karola Williams

On Sunday, August 30th, we said goodbye to our beloved mother and Oma, Karola Williams. Those who loved her knew her by many names: Mom, Dett, Frau, Tante, and Roli, but her favorite was Oma, which means grandmother in German. Karola is survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Brad, Doug, and Brooke whom she loved dearly and by three children, Janet, Michele, and Fred Williams, and his wife Cindy. Born Karola Friedericke Nebel on February 27th, 1926 in Frankfurt, Germany; she married Walter Williams in 1956, and they settled in Long Beach, Mississippi in 1960. They were married for 55 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Williams of Long Beach, MS; her mother, Anna Katharina Nebel and her father Georg Albert Nebel, and an older brother Adolf all of Frankfurt, Germany. She is survived by her sister, Hildegarde Boven of Rantoul, Illinois; a brother, Karl Nebel, of Heidelberg, Germany; and a niece, Heide Fogal of Rantoul, Illinois. She is also survived by a much-loved extended family in Germany and the United States.
Karola taught German at Coast Episcopal High School for 19 years. For more than 10 summers, she taught hundreds of children across the Coast to swim as well.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 6th, 2015 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to St. Jude's Children's hospital www.stjude.org or the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation www.usmfoundation.com for a scholarship in memory of Karola Williams. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Isabella Scott for her kindness and help, and to Memorial Hospital and the fourth floor nursing and hospice staff who took care of Karola in her final days.
