Karen Ann (Bobbie) Nelms, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 8, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 7, 1942, in Mendota, Illinois.
Karen spent many years building her career at Walmart, where she dedicated herself to her work and had the opportunity to connect with many individuals through her role. A proud graduate of Providence High School in Joliet, she furthered her education with courses at the University of Mississippi Gulf Park campus, embodying her commitment to lifelong learning.
For the past 50 years, Karen resided in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she not only made her home but also became an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Her faith and dedication to her church community were important aspects of her life that brought her joy and fulfillment.
Karen was a loving mother to her daughter Christine (Nick) Carter of Gulfport and her daughter-in-law Sheri Nelms of Biloxi. She was a treasured grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren—Chelsea (Josh) Collins, Jessie Carter, Ian Carter of Gulfport, Mellie (Josh) Maguire of Saucier, Jeff (Ariel) Moore, Josh (Selena) Moore, and Mandi Nelms of Biloxi—as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth W. Nelms, and their son, Kenneth W. Nelms, Jr. Karen also mourned the loss of her brothers, James Farmer and Jack Farmer; her sister, Marilyn Talkington; and her parents, James W. Farmer and Lena Tuttle.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Driftwood Nursing Home and its staff, as well as Deaconess Hospice and their staff, for the compassionate care extended to Karen during her time of need.
As they remember Karen, her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life, sharing stories and memories that reflect the warmth and kindness she shared with those around her. Her spirit will remain in the hearts of many, cherished and loved beyond measure.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, will be serving the Nelms family during this difficult time.
