Julie Anne Scheib, age 63, of Long Beach MS, passed away on October 21, 2024.  

A prayer service will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS on December 18, 2024 at 11:00 am with celebration of life reception following at Pass Christian Yacht Club. 

Julie was born in New Orleans LA on August 31, 1961. She spent 12 years of her childhood in Morgan City LA before returning with her family to New Orleans in 1974. She graduated at the top of her class from Grace King High School then attended Nicholls State University for one year, where she earned a scholarship for summer study at the University Catholique De’L’Quest in Anger France. She returned to New Orleans to attend the Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University, where she graduated cum laude with a major in Political Science Philosophy and a minor in Soviet Studies.  

Julie went on to earn a Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane School of Law, where she was a member of Tulane Law Review, received the American Juris Prudence Award, the Cicero C Sessions Award in Trial Advocacy and was a Senior Fellow in Legal Research and Writing. She was graduated cum laude. Julie served as a law clerk for the US Attorney’s office, Eastern District of LA, and also served as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Walter F. Marcus Jr, of the Louisiana Supreme Court. She worked in the litigation section at the law firm of Sessions and Fishman, prior to leaving New Orleans for a more quiet life in Lafayette, LA. She was an associate at the law firm of Leonard & Leonard, then joined the firm of Voorhies and Labbe where she spent over 20 years as partner. She ultimately decided to live out a years long dream of moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and retired from Preis PLC in New Orleans in 2023.

 In keeping with Scheib family tradition, Julie was a member of both the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans and Pass Christian Yacht Club.

 Julie is survived by her father, Joseph G. “Jack” Scheib Jr. of Madisonville, LA; siblings, Gretchen Scheib Grace (Tommy) of Houston TX, Joseph G. “Jay” Scheib III (Sharon) of Mandeville, LA, and Mark E. Scheib of Madisonville, LA. Also survived by nieces, Allison Davis, Casey Raspanti, Gillian Grace and Godchild, Katherine Grace. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Katherine “Katie” Bourgeois Scheib.

 Julie’s life was dedicated to the practice of law, intellectual pursuits, her family and cats whom she dearly loved. In her honor, please consider memorial donations to the Humane Society of Southern Mississippi, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, charities which she regularly supported. She has 5 cats that need to be rehomed. If anyone has room in their hearts and homes for an orphaned cat, please contact one of the family.
