Julia Elaine (Fancher) Vickery, born February 15, 1952, in McKenzie, Tennessee, passed from this life on June 14, 2026. She was 74 years old.
As a toddler, Julia moved with her family to Grenada, Mississippi. She attended Grenada public schools and graduated from Grenada High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, earning a degree in pharmacy. She settled in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, in 1979, where she would make her home for the rest of her life.
Julia grew up working in her father’s drug store and spent her career in small, independent pharmacies, where she formed personal relationships with her patients and truly loved serving them.
She enjoyed working in her yard, collecting small antiques and collectibles, and operating a small antique booth along with an eBay store. Every penny was set aside for her grandchildren and great-grandchild; she kept nothing for herself, not even to cover her own expenses.
She was a faithful, loving, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, daughter-in-law, employee, and servant of the Lord.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Julia rose at 4:00 a.m. to cook breakfast for volunteers outdoors, under a suspended tarp with poor lighting. She then went to work, where customers were served at tables set up in the pharmacy parking lot. Prescriptions were filled by flashlight inside the damaged building. All the while, she was living in a house that had been cut in half by a large pine tree, with the tree still inside for a good portion of that time.
A devoted student of the Bible, Julia attended the assembly of the saints (local assembly of the church of Christ) and Bible classes regularly and never missed unless she was too sick to attend. Even during Covid, she continued her faithful attendance when only four or five others were present. She had strong faith and hope in Jesus Christ. Her Biblical role models were the virtuous wife of Proverbs 31, Ruth, Dorcas, Lydia, and other godly women in Scripture. On earth, her greatest role model was her mother, Frances, though she also sought to emulate other faithful women she knew.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Bradshaw “Brad” Fancher and Mary Frances “Frances” Hubbard Fancher, and her oldest son, Daniel “Dan” “Vigo” Lamar Vickery.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas M. “Mike” Vickery; her children: Karen (Chris) Landrum and Paul (Jonalyn) Vickery; grandchildren: Alyssa (Andy) Dang, Gabby Fountain, Ethan Fountain, and Julian Michael Vickery; great-granddaughter, Sophie Dang; her sister, Susan (Craig) Fancher Wiese; her brother, Wayne (Linda) Fancher Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Vickery. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Kim Wiese, Meredith Beth (Sean) Massar, Shannon Wiese, Wayne (Shandis) Fancher III, Paul (Shanna Kaye) Fancher, Jennifer (Trey) Fancher
Crandall, Jamie Vickery, Timothy Vickery, Shea Vickery, Kelly Vickery, Pat Vickery, Laurie Vickery Edwards, and Kim Vickery, along with many other extended family members.
The memorial service has been planned according to Julia’s wishes, which she expressed while in the ICU. She had no fear of dying. Her last words, whispered to her husband, were an expression of her love and an assurance that she believed he had the strength to face her passing. During her last days before passing to the other side, when strength and opportunity permitted, she encouraged and consoled others.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd, Biloxi, Mississippi (West Jackson County), from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments, including small sandwiches and other light fare, will be available during the visitation.
