Joyce Oglesbee Pride, 85 of Gulfport, MS, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013.
Joyce was born August 9, 1927 in Columbia, MS. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty years Meredith E. Pride, parents Paul B & Hettie Jewel Oglesbee of Gulfport, Sisters Polly Robertson of Columbia and Olivia Slade of Gulfport and Brother Rev. Paul B. Oglesbee, Jr. of Hickory, MS.
She is survived by Sister Jean Dombrowski of Gulfport, daughter Regina Veenstra of Gulfport, grandchildren Megan and Justin Veenstra and great-grandchildren Lainey and Jordan.
Joyce grew up on the Gulf Coast after the family moved there when she was 15 years old. She was employed as a telephone operator with Southern Bell for many years. She met and fell in love with her soul mate that was stationed at Keesler Air Force base. They married on September 1, 1951 in Gulfport, MS shortly before he deployed to Korea. They spent a period of time In Oliver Springs, TN and then on to Marietta, GA, where they spent most of their life together. Joyce was employed as a Manager of the Skating Clubs of GA for many years. She enjoyed ceramics, playing her organ, working in the yard and fishing. The best of times were spent on weekend boat trips to the lake. She had many great memories from those days. After retirement, they returned to the Gulf Coast to live out the remainder of their lives together. She was very close to her family and treasured the memories they had as children in Columbia and on the coast. She loved all her siblings, but had a special bond with her sister Jean. They were the best of friends and Jean took very good care of her sister. The family would like to thank Greg Sullivan and the caregivers of A Connected Heart for the care and attention she received.
