Joy Margaret Stopson-Cowart

Joy Stopson-Cowart, 53, of Long Beach, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025. A native of Long Beach and resident of North Gulfport, Joy dedicated her life to education, creativity, and family.

Over the years Joy was employed as a Technology Teacher at New Gulfport 7th and 8th Grade School, Dupont, and New Horizons. She had a deep love for crafts, interior design, gardening, and baking. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Gail Stopson, and her aunt, Diane Thornton.

Joy is survived by her husband, Robert Cowart, and her father, Thomas Stopson. She leaves behind her children, Katelynn Seal (Brandon), Elizabeth Stopson (Nathan Quarlesett); grandchildren, Jayden Seal, Madison Seal, and Bentley Seal; and siblings, Tracy Stopson (Paul Scardino) and Julie Mooney (Tommy).

The family takes solace in their faith and the knowledge that Joy is home.

A private celebration of life will be held for immediate family and close friends at a later date.
