Joy L Raymond

Joy Lee Whittington Raymond, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Kare Med Personal Care Home in Ocean Springs, MS, after a year of declining health.

Born on January 23, 1937, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to the late Lucien Shelby Whittington, Sr. and Margaret Whittington. Joy was of Methodist faith. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she was a member of Kappa Delta.

Joy began her career teaching in the Biloxi School District. After several years, she transitioned to the Mississippi State Department of Employment, focusing on job placement. She found great joy in helping others find fulfilling work and received numerous awards for her dedication and success in this role.

She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin Raymond, Sr.; and her parents.

She is survived by her sister, Lucie Whittington Crosby of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and her brother, Lucien Shelby Whittington, Jr. of Sammanish, Washington.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 13th 2024, at 12:30 PM, at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS.
