Josephine Westbrook Stone

Josephine passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025 at the age of 95.

She was born in Trenton, MS. As a graduate of Burns High School, she played on the girl’s state championship basketball team in 1949. Her early career path included working at Sears and also as a P.E. coach at Beauvoir Elementary School in Biloxi. Later she furthered her education by earning an associate’s degree in nursing at Jefferson Davis Junior College. She retired as a psychiatric nurse from the Gulfport VA.

Josephine loved attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events. As a long-time member of Beauvoir United Methodist Church, her activities included singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and serving as a shepherd. She was a member of the “Bob Dog” trivia team, but her passion was playing cards.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. Stone, Sr. after 58 years of marriage; her father, Wallace Westbrook; her mother, Ethel Westbrook, and numerous brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children; Wayne Stone (Marilyn) of Saucier, MS; Judy Stone, of Biloxi, MS; and John Stone (Kay) of Woolmarket, MS; her grandchildren, Joanna (Scott) Schavrien, Robin (Russ) Gorbaty , and Kyle Stone; her great-grandchildren, Sinclaire Hearn, Conley Schavrien, Collette Schavrien, Jack Gorbaty, and Sophia Gorbaty.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Beauvoir United Methodist Church Choir, P.O. Box 8359, Biloxi, MS 39535.

Visitation begins at 10:30 on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, followed by the funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Beauvoir United Methodist Church, 2113 Pass Road, Biloxi. Services will conclude at Biloxi National Cemetery.
