Joseph Guadalupe Muñoz

Joseph Guadalupe Muñoz, age 76, passed away on December 1, 2024 in Biloxi.

Joseph Muñoz was born on December 2, 1947, in León, Mexico, to José Amaya Muñoz and Aurora Córdova. In 1968, he graduated from high school in Phoenix, Arizona, and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served bravely through two tours in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame. In 1971, he was honorably discharged and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves.

Joseph then joined the police force in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked for several years. He later worked for the Salt River Project water company until he met his wife, Kathy. After their marriage on June 8, 1982, they moved to Indiana. Joseph worked at the Naval Avionics Warfare Center in Indianapolis for 12 years. In 1996, Joseph and Kathy relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he served as Maintenance Supervisor at Keesler Air Force Base until his retirement after more than a decade of civil service.

A devout Catholic, Joseph attended Our Lady of Fatima Church and other Christian churches both on the coast and in Indiana. He enjoyed spending time on the water, fishing, boating, and traveling. A homebody at heart, he cherished his family, pets, and the tranquility of his cabin in Vancleave.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Amaya Muñoz and Aurora Córdova and his brother, Jesus Jose Muñoz.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy Wilson Muñoz; two daughters, Delia Muñoz Jasso and Sandra Muñoz Mesa; grandchildren, Vincent Jasso and Katrina Jasso; two sisters, Sally and Juanita; one brother, Raymond Muñoz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, December 16th 2024 at 2:30 PM at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
