Joseph Massa

Joseph Massa, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Gulfport, MS, with his devoted wife, Judy, and his cherished cat, Sadie, by his side. Born on September 2, 1948, in Hartford, CT, Joseph lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love for both his family and country.

Joseph’s military journey was marked by his service as a retired Gunnery Sgt with the United States Marine Corps. He often fondly reminisced about his military years, never meeting a stranger and always eager to share stories from that significant chapter of his life. After his dedicated service, he transitioned into a successful career as a table games dealer at the Isle of Capri in Biloxi, where he worked for nine years, creating lasting friendships with coworkers and patrons alike.

Education was important to Joseph, as he attended some college and carried a profound appreciation for literature. In retirement, he published three fiction books, showcasing his talent and love for writing. His literary interests extended to Shakespeare, and he enjoyed penning poems that reflected his life experiences and perspectives.

Joseph's personal passions were varied and vibrant. He was an avid fan of sports, particularly the Red Sox, Eagles, and Yukon Huskies. An enthusiastic bowler, he found joy in every pitch and every strike. He relished worldwide adventures through cruising and kept up with his family, blending those experiences with his love of gaming and fantasy football on his computer. Additionally, he was a cat lover, finding companionship in his three beloved cats, Samantha, Rosco, and Sadie.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 19 years, Judy Ross Massa, whose anniversary fell on September 10, just one day prior to his passing. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Scott Massa (Sherida), Joey Massa (Ronda), Tony Massa (Liz), Cheryl Marie McGlynn (Peter), and Jenny Baldwin. His family also includes stepdaughter Leslie Cazeaux and her daughter Lillian, as well as his stepchildren Marlene, Charlotte, Debbie, John, and Henry. Joseph's sibling ties remained strong, with his sister Jeannie Massa Harden and brother Jerry Massa carrying forward his memory, alongside numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Elaine Ladabouche Massa, his sister, Carmella Marie Massa, and his stepdaughter Chelle Cazeaux.

A graveside service to honor Joseph Massa will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery, located at 101 Memorial Drive, Biloxi, MS, on Monday, September 22, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. Joseph's spirit will continue to live on through the love and stories shared by those who were fortunate to know him, a man who embraced life wholeheartedly and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

A Special Thanks to his friend and retired Urologist Nurse, Retia Webber for helping him understand what was happening at all times while bathing him, getting him to appointments, and sitting with him when Judy was not around.
