Command Sergeant Major, Joseph "Joe" M. Ioffredo, US Army, Retired, age 69, of Biloxi died on March 6, 2017, unfortunately not "while lying on a beach somewhere in the world, as he had hoped!" He was born January 3, 1948 in Jersey City, NJ, too close to Christmas in his opinion.
He served as a sailor for 11 years in the USNR, qualifying on his beloved diesel electric submarines and receiving the coveted enlisted Submarine Dolphins. He also served 21 years in the USAR and graduated from the Sergeants Major Academy where he reached the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He held this honor for 16 of those 21 years, receiving many awards and decorations during his career, and received the Bronze Star while serving in the first Gulf War.
He had been married to his wife, Eileen Ioffredo, since 1985. He enjoyed every year, hour, minute, and second of their marriage. His two daughters, Melissa Russo of Palenville, NY and Jennifer Chewins of Ocean Springs, MS, were the two wonders of the world to him. They gave him the third and fourth wonders of the world in his granddaughters, Emily Russo and Lily Chewins. He also leaves behind his sister, Josephine Catanzaro of Jersey City, NJ; his brother, Victor Ioffredo, Sr., of Sebastian, FL; his mother in-law, Bessie Yager; and his sister in-laws Lizbeth Yager and Stephanie Puentes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on April 1, 2017 with visitation one hour prior at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi, MS. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard.
